Description
Lucuma powder is derived from the fruits of the lucuma tree. These trees are found at high altitudes ranging from 450 to 1000 meters. The original region where lucuma trees grow is the Andes region of South America. Producing approximately 500 fruits per year, the tree yields many fruits, although it does not produce any fruits during the first five years.
The botanical name under which lucuma is known is Pouteria lucuma. It has been appreciated for centuries for its unique sweet taste. Due to the very fine and dry texture of the fruit’s flesh, its texture can be compared to that of a hard-boiled egg. Hence, in English, the term ‘egg fruit’ is sometimes used to refer to lucuma.
After the fruit is dried, it is ground into powder. It is a very fine and dry powder, which is why it has a long shelf life of two years from the production date. Our lucuma is organically certified and extensively tested for microbiology and pesticides.
