Deglet Nour dates are among the finest quality dates in the world. This variety primarily originates from Tunisia but is also found in Algeria. The Deglet Nour dates grow in large fruit clusters, with the palm tree capable of producing up to 100 kilograms per year. This delightful sweet treat can be consumed both fresh and dried, with availability typically throughout the entire year. The harvesting period is usually in September, October, and November.

Origin of Dates

Although dates grow in many parts of the world, the best dates, in our opinion, come from Tunisia. The countries that produce the most dates, besides Tunisia, include Saudi Arabia, Iran, Egypt, Israel, and Algeria. There are various types of dates such as Bahri, Dayri, Deglet Noor, Halawy, Khadrawy, Medjool, Thoory, and Zahidi. There are so many different varieties because in the 16th century, the Spaniards attempted to cultivate different colonies in various locations. Dates belong to the palm family and do not have a clear origin, but it is believed to originate from areas in Iraq. The Spaniards first brought the seeds to Cuba around the 1500s to establish a date colony in Cuba. This failed due to the rainy weather negatively affecting the quality. In the 1700s, they made their way to Mexico and California, where they left a trail of date palm trees.
